Sunrise Fund 2015

Over the weekend we provided 59 students with grants to cover the cost of school fees. These students are children of factory workers in Reynosa and Rio Bravo Mexico. Their parents work tirelessly making products bound for US stores in order to give their children the opportunity to go to school. Unfortunately, between inscription fees, uniforms, supplies, and books many of these parents cannot afford to send their children to school. They work for international companies and generally earn between $0.80 and $1.50 an hour in these factories. Since public schools are not free in Mexico, some families would have to give up between one and three entire paychecks to send their kids to school. With generous donations from the public we were able to ensure that 59 students stay in school this year. The students made t-shirts with their names and what they want to be when they grow up. We had future doctors, lawyers, and teachers. It is important to Mexico that its young people are well educated and able to take on the task of building their country into a strong and independent nation. They are the future of their country, and we hope to see them grow up to be the leaders of their communities.
